'Acid' man jailed 10 years for disfiguring girlfriend's face with lethal substance over love triangle

A driver, Bright Boso, has been sentenced to 10 years in jail with hard labour for pouring acid on his girlfriend, Grace Amezando, 24.

The two cohabitated in a kiosk at Kisseiman in Accra and had two children together.

According to the prosecution, the driver had accused the victim of cheating on him in December 2022 with one Gyan, who also lived in the same neighbourhood.

On Monday, 11 May 2020, they both quarrelled over the same issue.

The victim left the house afterwards and joined a commercial bus heading toward Ashongman Estates.

The driver also joined the same bus and alighted at the last stop, where the victim alighted.

He abused the victim verbally in public and threatened her that she would soon look like an old lady since she was cheating on him because of her beauty.

On Wednesday, 13 May 2021, the accused went to work and returned at midnight on Thursday, 14 May 2021 while the victim was sleeping.

He poured the acid on the victim and bolted.

The victim woke up feeling a burning sensation on her body and in her eyes.

She was sent to the hospital and later referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre for treatment.

The victim suffered burns on her face, breasts, chest and both arms.

She also suffered an injury in the eye.

The accused person, who admitted to the crime, explained that after repair works on his vehicle, he stored the acid from the battery and poured it on the victim.
