The recently-retired Director-General of Special Duties of the Ghana Police Service, COP Reverend David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, has said the nature of crime in the country has changed, and, therefore, the police need sophisticated weapons to fight them.

Rev. Ampah-Bennin said although the Ghana Police Service is doing well to maintain peace and order for the good people of Ghana, it will need to be well-equipped with modern tools and gadgets.

The retired senior police officer told Accra News in an interview at his retirement party held at the police headquarters on Friday, 13 December 2019 that the nature of crime has changed these days, thus, the need for the police to also adopt new strategies in confronting the criminals, which will require that the personnel are given modern equipment.

Rev Ampah-Bennin said, at the moment, crime has become a complex activity, a situation that is making it difficult to fight with criminals with obsolete methods.

“Now, crime is becoming sophisticated, the criminals are always thinking of sophisticated weapons and tools to go ahead of the police and, so, we need modern sophisticated weapons and gadgets to fight the criminals.

“We cannot continue to rely on old ways of fighting crimes when the criminals are evolving,” he said.
