Police, GoldBod launch manhunt for four wanted gold smuggling suspects

The Ghana Police Service, in partnership with the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has launched a nationwide manhunt for four individuals accused of illegal gold smuggling.
The suspects, identified as Abdul Karim, Sadique Abubakar, Muhammed Afsal Puth Puthalan, and Muhammed Nandoli Rafeeq, are part of a group of seven alleged smugglers.
According to GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, three members of the group have already been arrested and are currently in the custody of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
Addressing the media in Accra on Tuesday, September 16, Mr. Gyamfi announced that a GH₵1 million bounty has been placed on each of the four at large, bringing the total bounty to GH₵4 million.
“We have an arrest warrant for all of them; they are wanted by the police and GoldBod.
If you have any information about their whereabouts, report immediately to the nearest police station or the GoldBod head office,” he stated.
Authorities say the operation forms part of intensified efforts to curb the growing menace of gold smuggling, which continues to undermine Ghana’s economy.
