The police will screen the suspects

The Central regional police command has, through a Special Police Operation carried out by the Formed Police Unit (FPU) together with personnel from the Central East Regional Command on Friday, 27 August 2021, arrested 14 herdsmen suspected to have been involved in the alleged gang-raping of a 13-year-old girl at Gomoa Adzintem.

The police said in a statement on Saturday, 28 August 2021 that arrests form part of “a manhunt for suspected herdsmen alleged to have defiled a 13-year-old girl at Gomoa Adzintem in the Central Region.”

Two single-barreled and two pump-action guns, as well as 49 AA ammunition, were also retrieved from the suspects, the police noted, adding that an “identification parade will be conducted in the community to identify the real suspects in the dastardly act on the teenager to face justice.”

The teenage victim is battling for her life after the incident.

The girl also suffered cutlass wounds for resisting the rape.

The father of the girl also suffered cutlass wounds and is currently on admission at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

The incident has sparked outrage among some youth of the town who have threatened to avenge the teenage victim.

They have planned reprisal attacks on the herdsmen and their cattle the next time they come grazing.

The chief of Gomoa Adzintem, Nana Obrempong Essel Andoh, is rallying the chiefs in Gomoa to wage a war against Fulani herdsmen who he says are causing harm to innocent farmers.
