Police rescue kidnapped victim in Northern Region, arrest three suspects
Police in the Northern Region have successfully rescued a kidnapping victim following a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Wapuli, within the Yendi Division.
The incident was first reported to the Tamale Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) on December 2, 2025, around 9:30 a.m., after the suspects allegedly demanded a ransom of GHS100,000 from the victim’s family.
Upon receiving the report, Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, dispatched a five-member intelligence team to track down the suspects.
Their efforts led to the rescue of the victim on December 5.
According to police, the suspects engaged officers in a shootout shortly after midnight on December 6.
They escaped during the exchange of gunfire, abandoning a motorbike with registration number M 25 NR and a Samsung mobile phone at the scene.
Later that morning, at about 8:00 a.m., the team traced the suspects to Bokpaba, where three men — Haruna Seidu, Amidu Bandi, and Osman Bandi — were arrested.
Two motorbikes and GHS70,000, believed to be part of the ransom, were also retrieved.
Police say one suspect is still at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.
