S/R police arrests 5 for shooting, burning houses over shea nuts
The police command up north has arrested five suspects, including two sub-chiefs, in connection with a shooting incident as well as the torching of some houses at Taletuma in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district.
Tensions in the area rose on Sunday, 25 August 2019, after armed men believed to be members of the Kong Paramountcy launched the attacked on the townsfolk.
They chased the locals into the bush amidst firing and burning of property after they resisted demands to pay their shea nut royalties to the Kong Paramountcy.
The Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Yusif Tanko told Class91.3FM’s 12Live mid-day news that two locally-manufactured single-barreled guns were retrieved from the attackers.
He said some injuries were recorded.
