Tamale: Police arrest 11 sex workers
The police command in the Northern Region has apprehended eleven suspected sex workers in the Tamale metropolis.
A special operation with the Counter-Terrorism Unit of the Ghana Police Service raided some communities in the metropolis where the suspects operated.
The Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Otuo Acheampong, who led the operation, said the suspects were believed to be soliciting.
Mr Acheampong noted that investigations are underway to establish the nationalities of the suspects.
“When we establish that they are not Ghanaians, and for that matter, they don't have the requisite legitimacy to live in Ghana, we’ll collaborate with our immigration partners to take it from there," he stated.
The Regional Crime Officer warned that the police is waging a relentless war against lawlessness and impunity in the region.
"We are continuing with this operation unabated," Mr Acheampong stressed.
A man was also arrested during the operation for wielding a locally-manufactured pistol.
