Tema slums now crime hubs – Ebi Bright
The Tema Regional Police Command is doing well in curtailing criminal activities, however, there is still more work to be done, actress Ebi Bright, who is the newly-elected parliamentary nominee of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema Central constituency, has said.
She noted that there is a slum settlement in Tema, which is gradually becoming a hub of criminal activities, therefore, the police command must increase its surveillance in that area.
She told Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM on Thursday, 29 August 2019 that between 2015 and 2016, when the NDC was in power, the then-government provided streets lights in almost every corner of the constituency as a measure to fight crime.
The police, she added, also patrolled the entire area 24/7.
Asked about the security situation in Tema Central, Ms Bright said: “To be honest, the police in Tema Central are really working hard and I want to take this opportunity to congratulate them.”
However, she noted, “There is a growing slum in the community which is becoming a hub of criminal activities”.
“In 2015, 2016, we had to put streetlights at vantage points in the community to reduce the crime rates.
“I noticed currently that the police have also increased their patrol of the area but there is a lot more to be done.”
