UE/R: 507 illegal immigrants busted
A combined team of police, immigration and National Security officers in the Upper East Region on 25 April 2021, arrested 507 illegal immigrants in the Bolgatanga Municipality.
According to intelligence, the immigrants, made up of 494 Nigerians six of whom are females and 13 Burkinabes, entered Ghana through unapproved routes in the Northern Region in April 2020.
The operation was mounted following concerns raised by residents of the Upper East Region about the influx of foreign nationals who engaged in criminal activities and other fraud-related crimes in the area.
The illegal immigrants have been processed for repatriation.
Meanwhile, the profiles of the Nigerians among them are being shared with security counterparts in their home country to ascertain whether they were part of the announced jailed breakers.
The police administration has cautioned the public, especially landlords, against accommodating persons whose identities and residential statues are unknown.
The security agencies have further appealed to the public to give the police information about suspected criminals and their activities.
