Education Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo) has said the government is committed to strengthening early childhood education in the country.

Dr Prempeh said increasing investment in pre-primary education is a top government priority.

He said although the government has done well in investing in pre-primary education, it is not enough, adding that more will be done.

Dr Prempeh was speaking at the 2019 Right Age Enrollment Campaign organised by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and UNICEF at Ashtown in the Kumasi metropolis of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, 11 September 2019.

The campaign is aimed at ensuring that all children are enrolled in kindergarten by age four.

Dr Prempeh noted that a policy will be created and will articulate a specific framework, including the development of an implementation and monitoring plan to achieve quality kindergarten service delivery by 2030.

He said the government has planned to construct 1,171 kindergarten model schools between 2018 and 2021 in addition to the 80 schools already constructed and equipped across the country.

Dr Prempeh further stated that the government is also committed to increasing the availability of quality kindergarten teachers to raise the children properly.
