2021 A-G’s report: UG running 374 unaccredited programmes
Three hundred and seventy-four programmes at the University of Ghana are unaccredited.
This is according to the Auditor-General’s 2021 report.
Fourteen out of the unaccredited 374 courses are Diploma programmes.
While 80 are undergraduate programmes, 213 Post-Graduate and 67 PhD courses.
The A-G in its report noted that the “University advertised 374 academic programmes on the various web portals that had the accreditation expired or requires re-accreditation during the period under review.”
The A-G has, therefore, recommended that management of the University, “expedite action for accreditation and re-accreditation of all new and expired academic programmes respectively.”
It further recommended that management of the university “liaise with Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to take retrospective accreditations to cover all the non-accredited certificates issued to students.”
Meanwhile, the same report has recommended that the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) cease running programmes that are not accredited.
This the A-G says will foil sanctions from the National Accreditation Board (NAB).
In its report, the A-G noted that only 61, out of the 360 programmes run by the KNUST, have been accredited.
“We noted that out of the 360 programmes running by the university, only 61 have been accredited and 190 sent to National Accreditation Board (NAB) for accreditation and reaccreditation, with 109 yet to be sent to NAB for accreditation,” the report said.
It recommended to management of the KNUST “to cease running programmes that are not accredited or having its accredited certificates expired until they are accredited or renewed, to avoid sanctions by NAB.”
