A/R: CID probes 53 school heads over feeding fraud, corruption
The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has summoned the heads of some senior high schools in the Ashanti Region over alleged corruption in the implementation of the free feeding programme for pupils.
The Ministry of Education, in a letter issued on 28 April 2021 and addressed to the Ashanti regional director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), indicated that “management has received a letter from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, which indicates that they are investigating some issues related to the supply of food items to some of the senior high schools in your region”.
“You are hereby directed to request the respective District Directors of Education to release the headmaster/mistress or the assistants, domestic bursars, accountants and storekeepers of the attached list of schools to the CID for investigations if requested,” the letter further stated.
Some 53 schools were identified in the alleged scandal.
Notable among them are Prempeh College, Opoku Ware SHS, Komfo Anokye SHS, Kumasi Academy and Yaa Asantewaa Girls' SHS.
