The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), in the Ashanti Region has presented 500 desks to 11 basic schools in the Metropolis to ease the infrastructural inadequacies.

Each of the schools, including Adum Presby JHS, Opoku Ware Basic School, Sokoban Methodist Primary, and Amankwatia JHS among others, received 45 of the mono and dual desks.

Some of the schools were facing challenges with furniture.

The Headmaster of the Adum Presbyterian Junior High School (JHS), Mr Samuel Osei Sarpong told Class 91.3 FM's Ashanti Regional Correspondent Elisha Adarkwah that: “We have almost 300 students [but] we have less than 250 desks.”

He explained that: “Let's say two mono desks are being occupied by three students, and then the few dual ones that we've are being occupied by three students."

The Headmaster of the school also commended the Kumasi Mayor and the KMA for the donation.

He added that the desks will go a long way to relieving the pressure on the old ones and promoting quality teaching and learning.

The Kumasi Mayor, Sam Pyne, who presented the furniture to the schools said the Assembly has put measures in place to improve effective teaching and learning, not just by providing furniture, but by providing the schools with classrooms among others.

He revealed that three school-building projects have commenced currently with construction steadily progressing.

The Mayor therefore encouraged the students to take their studies seriously and urged management of the schools to take proper care of the desks.
