AAMUSTED Vice-Chancellor calls for more staff and infrastructure to support university growth

The Vice-Chancellor of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Prof. Frederick K. Sarfo, has raised concerns over staff shortages and inadequate infrastructure affecting the university’s operations.
Speaking at the 2024/2025 matriculation ceremony for newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students, Prof. Sarfo stressed the urgent need for additional staff and improved facilities to keep pace with the university’s rapid expansion.
During the admission process, AAMUSTED received 20,280 applications and admitted 18,281 students, representing 91% of applicants. However, only 13,066 students—11,920 undergraduates and 1,146 postgraduates—completed their registration, with a gender distribution of 51% male and 49% female.
Prof. Sarfo explained that while the university is committed to providing access to quality education, it is often forced to limit admissions due to staff shortages and facility constraints.
“We take no pleasure in denying admission to qualified applicants,” he stated, “but without adequate resources, we are compelled to regulate our intake.”
To address these challenges, Prof. Sarfo revealed that management has initiated plans to construct a new lecture block and science laboratories at the Asante Mampong campus.
Additionally, a lecture block and a mini sports stadium will be built at the Kumasi campus to enhance academic and recreational facilities.
The Vice-Chancellor assured students and stakeholders of the university’s commitment to improving infrastructure and faculty strength, ensuring that AAMUSTED remains a centre of excellence in skills training and entrepreneurial education.
