Akufo-Addo meets Cabinet on school reopening – Oppong Nkrumah
President Akufo-Addo was to have met Cabinet today, Wednesday, 30 December 2020, to decide on the possible reopening of schools in January, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah disclosed.
According to him, the government has been in discussions with various stakeholders in education, to come up with a comprehensive and detailed plan on the reopening of schools.
Mr Nkrumah disclosed via Twitter on 29 December 2020 that: “President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo prepares to meet cabinet tomorrow for a decision on the possible reopening of schools in January. Key on his agenda will be to examine the proposals for assuring the safety of our children, should schools reopen.”
“These decisions are not made lightly. But so far, all his COVID management decisions have been spot on. Fingers crossed, he will make the best decision in the interest of our children and our schools,” he added.
Schools were closed down in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Subsequently, final-year tertiary students were allowed to complete their studies.
Final-year JHS and SHS students were also allowed to prepare and sit their final examinations.
Considerations are been made to ensure that school resumes in full gear soon, while COVID-19 management and safety protocols are strictly adhered to.
