Fourteen Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the country have, so far, recorded COVID-19 cases.

This follows confirmed cases of COVID-19 at four more schools - Accra Girls’ Senior High School, Odorgonno SHS, Konongo Wesley SHS and Mfantsiman Girls' SHS.

The other 10 schools include Mawuli School, Bishop Herman College in Kpando, Dabala Technical School and Mawuko Girls SHS in the Volta Region.

The remaining are Archbishop Porter Girls, Ahantaman Girls, Adiembra SHS and Diebene SHS all in the Takoradi Metropolis.

The rest are Suhum Senior Technical School (STHS) in the Eastern Region and Nsein Senior High School in the Nzema East District.

Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, however, noted that the situation in his region is under control as the students have all been taken into isolation at the region’s treatment centres.

He stated: “Since they have been taken out of their schools, they cannot spread the virus and so there is no cause for panic.”

Government has, however, deployed a team of 200 personnel drawn from the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Ghana Education Service (GES) and District and Regional Directorates of education.

Ghana recorded 270 new COVID-19 cases as of Sunday, 12 July 2020, taking the total load to 24,518, the Ghana Health Service reported.

The new cases were from samples taken between 17 June and 8 July 2020.

Also, the number of recovered and discharged patients has increased to 20,187.

Similarly, the death toll has increased by four and now stands at 139.

The active cases are 4,192.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC

Stay at home, observe social-distancing, avoid handshaking.

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, throw the tissue into a closed bin, and then wash your hands.

Always wear a mask, particularly when leaving home.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects or surfaces such as remote controls and doorknobs.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
