Pupils of Ekumfi Bogyano D/A Basic School in the Ekumfi District of the Central Region have bemoaned the poor teaching methods used in their computer classes at school.

According to the pupils, none of them has seen or touched a computer mouse or a computer accessory before.

They said it is a sad time when they have to learn computing in school due to the fact that they do not have any of the ICT tools or equipment in the school.

They explained that their teachers always draw the computer on the chalkboard for them to learn, adding that it is a difficult way for them to learn.

"We hear people saying monitor, system unit, mouse, keyboard, but we have never seen or touched any of these before in our lives," they bemoaned.

Speaking in an interview with Class 91.3 FM's Nana Tawiah, the pupils lamented that they also keep their books on the bare floor in their classroom as there is no cupboard.

In view of their challenges, they have to write the same Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with their colleagues in urban centres.

This, they said is “unfair and worrying.”

They are, therefore, appealing to the government to support them with computers, and cupboards to keep their books and other teaching and learning materials.

In addition, the Headmaster of the School, Mr Emmanuel Ekow Arthur, complained about the lack of a block for the Kindergarten (KG) pupils.

Currently, the KG pupils learn at the Head teacher’s Office which he deems not appropriate.

He said they have appealed to Non- Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to come to their aid by building a KG block for them.

He agreed with the pupils that it is difficult for the teachers in the school to teach computing due to the lack of computers and a computer laboratory.

He again appealed to the NGOs and government as well as others to support the school to get some computers, teachers' bungalows and other teaching and learning materials.

The Head teacher was worried about how pupils always kept their books on the bare floor in their classrooms
