Disregard 'Golden Social Studies' textbook – NaCCA
The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has said it has not yet reviewed the curriculum for Junior and Senior High Schools and has, therefore, urged the public to disregard a textbook titled, ‘Golden Social Studies for Senior High Schools’ written byone Emmanuel Asare Donkor, which is being sold to schools and the public as a textbook developed for the “new GES curriculum.”
The said book contains content on various topics including “same-sex family systems.”
A statement issued on Sunday, 10 November 2019 and signed by NaCCA's Acting Executive Secretary, Dr Prince Hamid Armah, stated that its attention has been drawn to “a certain textbook, ‘Golden Social Studies for Senior High Schools’ written by one Emmanuel Asare Donkor” being sold to schools and the general public as “a textbook developed for the ‘New GES Curriculum.’ The said book has content on various topics including same-sex family system.”
The statement added that NaCCA has not yet reviewed the JHS and SHS curricula, adding that: “Publishers and writers are, once again, being reminded that all textbooks and other supplementary materials must be assessed and approved by NaCCA before they are sold to schools and the general public, as per the provisions of the Education Act 2008 (Act 778).”
NaCCA said it will soon “launch an SMS short code system to help the general public determine textbooks approved and recommended for schools, as part of efforts to improve the standards of books used in the school system.”
