The Minister for Education,  Haruna Iddrisu, has commissioned a 13-member steering committee tasked with reviewing the curriculum for kindergarten to primary six, with a strong charge to correct distortions in Ghana’s political history and promote responsible citizenship.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Mr  Iddrisu emphasised the need for the revised curriculum to reflect truth, integrity, and national values.

He specifically urged the committee to ensure that Ghana’s political history is accurately presented, particularly the significant contributions of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in the country’s struggle for independence.

His comments follow concerns over attempts by the previous Nana Akufo-Addo-led administration to downplay Dr. Nkrumah’s role and promote other figures such as J.B. Danquah as co-founders of the nation — a move many have criticised as revisionist.

“This curriculum review must restore our true national identity and instil in our children the right sense of history,” the Minister said.

Beyond historical accuracy, Mr Iddrisu also tasked the committee with embedding digital innovation, ethics, integrity, and critical thinking into the foundational educational system.

He stressed that the revised curriculum should produce future citizens who are not only knowledgeable but also responsible and morally upright.

The committee, composed of experts in education, curriculum development, and pedagogy, is expected to undertake a thorough review process aimed at aligning Ghana’s basic education with modern educational standards and national development goals.

The Education Ministry has assured the public that stakeholder engagement will be key throughout the review process to ensure inclusivity and national consensus
