Members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in six regions have announced a simultaneous strike beginning today, 10 September 2019.

The industrial action is due to what the teachers have described as poor working conditions.

This comes on the heels of an ongoing strike by GNAT's sister teacher association, National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) over the newly-introduced Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) acquired by the Public Services Commission, unpaid allowances and delayed promotions among others.

A statement announcing the intentions of the teachers signed by six chairpersons and a representative each from the Northern, Upper West, Upper East, Volta, Central, Greater Accra, said: “Looking at the fact that many of the issues are not new and have been with the employer for a very long time without solution, we, as Regional Chairmen and Representatives, are unable to restrain our members from embarking on their intended industrial action effective Tuesday, 10th September 2019 until all the issues are effectively resolved”.
