KNUST stores superintendent challenges Vice-Chancellor’s tenure extension in court

A stores superintendent at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has taken legal action against the recent extension of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mrs. Akosua Dickson’s tenure.
Isaac Mensah, who has dedicated 26 years to the university, argues that the decision to extend the Vice-Chancellor's term is fraught with “illegality and procedural impropriety” and is seeking to have it overturned.
Mr. Mensah claims that the governing council’s decision contravenes university statutes and could unfairly prevent other qualified candidates from vying for the Vice-Chancellor position.
He argues that allowing the extension would undermine institutional regulations and deny opportunities to potential successors.
Highlighting the urgency, Mr. Mensah points out that the extension is set to take effect on Thursday, 1 August 2024.
His lawsuit comes on the heels of another legal challenge filed by an alumni member two weeks ago, which is scheduled for a hearing today, Tuesday, 30 July 2024.
