Mandatory pre-school medical screening begins today

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) in collaboration with the Education Service and other partners will, from today, Tuesday, 10 September 2019, begin a mandatory medical screening for all pupils entering kindergarten and primary one in the 2019/2020 academic year.
The screening is aimed at “the early detection of actual and potential health problems of schoolchildren for early referral, care and management.”
A joint statement from the Health and Education Ministries, the GES and GHS assured parents that “no child will be denied admission basis of their health condition or status.”
“All caregivers and parents of the target children are entreated to be in attendance with their ward’s Child Health record Books to support the screening exercise and provide the requisite information,” the statement said.
