The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Cape Coast North, Horace Ekow Ewusi, has formally petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Professor Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi from his position as Chairman of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Governing Council.

Mr. Ewusi claims that Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi’s actions are disrupting the university’s smooth operations and overall well-being.

In his petition, Mr. Ewusi argues that Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi is pursuing a personal agenda that conflicts with the university’s collective interests.

Mr. Ewusi described the Chairman’s behaviour as detrimental and misaligned with the institution’s needs.

“I humbly write to bring to your attention the disturbing conduct of the Chairperson of the Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi, which is affecting the smooth running of the University and further petition your high office to investigate same and further humbly request for his removal,” Mr. Ewusi stated.

Despite numerous efforts by community leaders, including himself, to urge Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi to act in the best interests of the university, Mr. Ewusi claims these attempts have been unsuccessful.

He believes the Chairman’s actions indicate a focus on personal goals rather than the university’s needs, potentially jeopardising the NPP's chances of securing the parliamentary seat.

Mr. Ewusi accused Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi of making autocratic decisions without consulting the University Council.

“He lacks a fundamental grasp of corporate governance principles and behaves as an executive chairman, making unilateral decisions without recourse to members of the University Council,” Mr. Ewusi remarked.

He also cited conflicts between the Chairman and major unions, including the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), as well as the university's convocation and Board of Convocation.

He provided copies of Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi's responses to these bodies as evidence of his unilateral actions.

Additionally, Ewusi accused Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi of persistently attacking Vice-Chancellor Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, creating tension and division within the university community.

“Faculty and staff of the University, who form the base of our party, have expressed concerns about the sudden turn of events since Prof. Harold Amonoo-Kuofi assumed office and the potential impact this has on the University’s reputation,” Mr. Ewusi added.
