The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Technical Universities Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has declared an indefinite nationwide strike, effective Wednesday, December 3, 2025, citing government’s persistent failure to pay the One-Time Research Allowance agreed upon in July 2024.

According to the association, the allowance negotiated to support research and publication required for administrators’ career progression was an entitlement, not a privilege.

TUSAAG said the government’s continued delay constituted a “blatant breach of agreement” and showed a disregard for the critical role senior administrators played in Ghana’s technical university system.

The association stated that months of engagement with key government bodies, including the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), had produced no results.

TUSAAG further noted that several letters, formal requests for meetings, and attempts to engage the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, had either been ignored or postponed, leaving them with no option but to resort to industrial action.

The strike will see a total withdrawal of administrative services across all 10 technical universities. Critical operations such as admissions, examinations, finance, human resources, the registry, and general administrative functions are expected to face major disruptions until the government honours the outstanding allowance.

Despite the action, TUSAAG said it remained open to genuine and immediate dialogue, emphasising that the industrial strike was intended to compel the necessary attention and resolve issues that months of appeals had failed to address.
