Sackey at the scholarship secretariat

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has instructed the scholarship secretariat to award a senior high school leaver, Abednego Sackey, who, through a Facebook post appealed for public support to enable him further his education after losing his mother.

The attention of President Akufo-Addo was drawn to the predicament of the Kade Senior Secondary School leaver by some individuals at the Presidency.

Mr Sackey, in a Facebook post on Saturday, 28 September 2019, wrote: “My name is Sackey Abednego. I completed School at Subriso L/A JHS and Kade SHS in the Kwaebibirem Municipal Ass. I offered science and had the result here but unfortunately for me my single mum who provides for me passed out before my final exams.”

“I’m, therefore, pleading with the stakeholders and the good people of Ghana to help me financially to further my education at the tertiary level. My contact is 0245251449. God bless the helping hand. Amen.”

Sackey has now been granted full scholarship following the President’s intervention.

The Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat, Mr Kingsley Agyemang, on Wednesday, 2 October 2019 said in a Facebook post after the student visited the secretariat with his aunty, that: “His dream is to study medicine and we, as a government agency, will make sure that he gains admission to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with a full scholarship in addition to stipends throughout his period of learning,”

Mr Agyemang also made a personal donation of GHS 1,000 to the family of Mr Sackey and urged him to make Ghana proud by paying serious attention to his books.
