The Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdullai, has reaffirmed that Perez University College holds full accreditation as a tertiary institution in Ghana. Speaking at the university’s 9th graduation ceremony on Saturday, Prof. Jinapor emphasized the institution’s legitimate status in the higher education landscape.

“For the records, Perez University College is a fully accredited tertiary educational institution in Ghana with all the rights and privileges that it deserves,” he stated to resounding applause at the Perez Dome in Dzorwulu.

The ceremony, attended by dignitaries including the Honorary Chancellor, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, his wife Rev. Mrs. Vivian Agyin Asare, members of the University College Council, academic staff, and graduating students, marked a significant milestone in the institution’s evolution from a Bible school to a full-fledged university college.

Prof. Jinapor lauded Archbishop Agyin Asare for his “selfless dedication” and leadership, noting that he had personally ensured compliance with accreditation regulations since the era of the National Accreditation Board.

The GTEC boss used the occasion to highlight the vital role private and faith-based tertiary institutions play in expanding access to higher education in Ghana. “We commend all private tertiary education providers, particularly faith-based universities, for working very hard to promote and increase access to quality tertiary education,” he said.

Speaking under the theme "Redefining Ghana's Future: Graduate at the Heart of Economic Reset and 24-Hour Economy," Prof. Jinapor placed graduates at the centre of Ghana’s socio-economic transformation, stressing their critical role in the country’s digital and innovation-driven agenda.

He announced that from July 1, 2025, GTEC would fully transition to its digital Accreditation Management Information System (AMIS), ceasing all manual applications. “This feeds directly into our 24-Hour Economy strategy by ensuring efficiency, reducing costs, and cutting down bureaucratic delays,” he explained.

Prof. Jinapor also took a firm stance on academic integrity, warning against the misuse of academic titles such as “Dr” and “Prof.” He cited GTEC’s legal mandate under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), to regulate the use of academic credentials.

Turning to the graduates, he urged them to be “ethical, innovative, and adaptable leaders,” capable of driving national development through technology, entrepreneurship, and integrity.

GTEC, he noted, remains committed to curriculum modernization, stronger industry-academia collaboration, and promoting research excellence. He invited private institutions to participate in the upcoming GTEC Summer School at KNUST from July 7–8, focused on building sustainable development through research.

The event celebrated the achievements of the graduating class while underscoring the broader national vision of aligning tertiary education with Ghana’s transformation agenda.
