SHS placement: 37,000 apply for 1,200 KSTS vacancies
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has released statistics on some selected Senior High Schools (SHSs) from the recent Computerised Schools Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) of prospective students.
Out of the 13 schools contained in the list, Kumasi Secondary Technical School (KSTS) had the highest number of applicants – 37,457 – more than 30 times the number of vacancies (1,214) available at the school.
Sector minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), explained that even though KSTS is not a Category A school, it attracted the highest number of applicants because “it is right in the middle of Kumasi in Pataase”.
On the other hand, Category A schools like Wesley Girls’ High School, Achimota School, Aggrey Memorial A. M. E. Zion, Ghana National College, Asanteman Senior High School, Anglican Senior High, Kumasi and Obuasi Senior High/Technical recorded less than 10% placement percentages.
