September start date for first-year SHS students false - GES

Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has debunked media reports that classes for first-year senior high students for the 2024/25 academic year are scheduled to start on Friday, September 27.
According to Dr. Tandoh, the statement released conveying this message is fake.
Speaking on the Class Morning Show (CMS) on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, Dr. Tandoh stated, “Yesterday, there was a lot flying around on social media that the first-year students for 2024/25 will begin [school] in September. That’s absolutely false; it’s fake letters that are going out on social media. All people needed to do was verify that information from the verified social media handles of the Ghana Education Service, and they would have known.”
Dr. Tandoh advised Ghanaians on the importance of digital literacy to avoid spreading misinformation.
He emphasised that digital literacy helps individuals decipher information, particularly from social media and new media sources.
He urged the public to verify and check the authenticity of sources before sharing information.
