Tensions are high at the 29th National Congress of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) at Ensign University, Kpong, as armed men allegedly linked to the National Democratic Congress National Youth Organiser and Minister for Youth Development, George Opare Addo, stormed the venue in what many believe to be an intimidation scheme.

Although Opare Addo was not physically present, multiple sources claim he is behind the disruption, acting through his close ally, Bernard Dartey (alias Kawaka), the Director of Operations at the NDC Youth Wing.

Witnesses report that Dartey arrived in a white Nissan Hardbody pickup (AP 566-24) and a military pickup (44 GA 33), leading a group of heavily armed men who openly issued threats, warning students against resisting their actions.

The presence of armed operatives sparked outrage among students, who called for their immediate withdrawal.

"Why should an NDC Youth Wing official be leading armed men to a student election?

This is a disgrace! We won’t allow ourselves to be bullied!" one angry delegate protested.

Another warned, "If this is how Opare Addo wants to run student leadership, then we are doomed as a country.

This must stop now!"

Further raising tensions, Opare Addo’s advance team, including Bright Agyiri, Derrick Abotsi, Richard Class-Peters, Sharif Mohammed Ayedakew, and Obeng Darko-Walker, reportedly arrived at dawn with a group of suspected vigilantes.

Their alleged mission: to ensure Jimmy Mawuse Adangbe, a University of Ghana student, wins at all costs.

However, concerns of interference have led students to warn that any manipulation of the process could spark widespread unrest.

Despite repeated calls from delegates, the armed men remain stationed at the venue, defying demands for their withdrawal.

Some students have threatened to boycott the election if they are not removed, raising questions about the credibility of the process.

With voting set for 3 PM, attention is now on Opare Addo and the NDC leadership to see whether they will intervene to de-escalate tensions or allow the situation to spiral out of control.
