WestBridge School holds ‘rep your jersey’
WestBridge School located at Ashongman Estates in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency has held a ‘Rep your jersey’ event.
The event which was held on Friday, 6 March 2020, brought together parents, guardians, management and students of the school dressed in the jerseys of their favourite football teams.
According to the Academic Supervisor of the School, Dominic Djabah Addo, the event was to bring together parents, pupils, teachers and management to take part in fun games to promote fitness, socialisation and also foster unity among residents of the community the school is located, especially during the celebration of Ghana’s Independence anniversary.
The event took off with the playing of the National anthem and a parade.
The children were also educated on the importance of Ghana’s Independence day anniversary.
There were mini leagues for both boys and girls and men and women, jumping rope competition, balloon magic, car wash relay, musical chairs among others.
Mr Addo also emphasised that the event afforded parents an opportunity to spend time with their children as most parents are unable to do so due to their busy schedules.
He said: “Our parents go to work every day, some don’t have time to play with their kids and this is the opportunity to mingle with their kids and also bond with them.
Mr Addo indicated that ‘Rep Your Jersey’ will continue every year on Independence Day but will take a new dimension to promote local teams in the country and appealed to the manufacturers of the Jerseys of local football clubs to partner with organisations and schools to enable easy access to such jerseys to promote Ghanaian clubs.
“Going forward, we want to have our local teams represented so this is a call on all stakeholders who are into sports in Ghana to promote the local teams and through schools, we can get our sports basically or to be specific more football represented in the schools. If the kids know our local teams right from primary school, they’re going to do same as they climb the academic ladder.”
