The 17-year-old total eclipse of the Sun swept across parts of West and North Africa, Turkey, and Central Asia.

The eclipse was much wider in most of Africa.

The incident lasted 247 seconds approximately; 4 minutes and 7 seconds, covering an area of 114 miles.

The president of the Republic of Ghana at the time of the incident was John Agyekum Kufuor, he was nine years old when a total eclipse occurred in 1947.

He described the experience under his reign as a ''great one.''

Scientists have predicted that Ghana will witness the next total eclipse in 14,276 days on Friday, April 30, 2060, which is about 39 years from now
