A/R: Fire ravages Kwadaso market, destroys 40 shops

Fire has razed through the Kwadaso market in the Ashanti region.
The incident occurred early Thursday, 1 August 2024.
The inferno swept through the market and destroyed 40 shops in the process leaving traders in the M line reeling from the loss of millions of Cedis worth of goods including fabrics, footwear, frozen foods and more.
No casualties were reported.
The Ashanti Regional Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was at the scene to douse the fire, however, there was a challenge accessing the market with a lot of obstructions affecting the firefighters response to the blaze.
The entrance to the market had some obstructions around so the gates could not open fully.
The fire was eventually controlled after two fire appliances, including a fire tender and a water tanker, were deployed to the scene.
