A/R: Five-member committee to investigate attack on female student at KUMACA
The Education Directorate of Asokore Mampong Municipality in the Ashanti region has established a five-member committee to investigate the assault of a female student at Kumasi Academy Senior High School (KUMACA).
The committee, formed today, has been tasked with submitting its findings within a week, after which appropriate actions will be taken.
The incident, which has gone viral on social media, involves a security guard and several students of the school who were captured in a video assaulting the final-year female student.
The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Samson Anawine Atogembero, condemned the security guard’s actions as "unfortunate" and confirmed that the female student had received medical care.
Speaking to Elisha Adarkwah of Class 93.1 FM, Mr. Atogembero disclosed that the security guard has been arrested by the Asokore Mampong police and is cooperating with ongoing investigations.
He explained that the altercation occurred when the security guard encountered the female student and another male student in a dark classroom around midnight on Monday, August 12, 2024.
When approached by the security guard, the male student managed to escape, leaving behind the female student, who was holding a mobile phone.
The security guard attempted to confiscate the phone, but the student resisted, leading to a confrontation that attracted other students.
The students then filmed the incident.
Mr. Atogembero expressed concern over the filming of the incident and questioned how students were able to smuggle mobile phones into the school.
He assured that the victim's parents have been contacted and invited to the school, and emphasized that the students are safe and receiving the necessary protection.
