A/R: Jurors defy nationwide strike, express hope in CJ’s assurances
Jurors in the Ashanti Region have defied the nationwide strike declared by their national leadership, citing hope in assurances from Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo regarding unpaid allowances.
Despite calls for a nationwide indefinite strike over months of unpaid allowances, jurors in the Ashanti Region have chosen to continue their duties, believing in the Chief Justice's promise to address their concerns.
The nationwide strike, declared on Thursday, 16 May 2024, was initiated due to several months of unpaid allowances owed to jurors across the country.
However, jurors in the Ashanti Region, who previously embarked on a similar action in November 2023, have opted to continue discharging their duties as expected.
Albert Ackah, the General Foreman of the Ashanti Regional jurors, expressed their reliance on the Chief Justice's assurance during her visit to Kumasi in November 2023.
"We had a meeting with the Chief Justice when she came to Kumasi, and she promised that all the arrears would be paid to us," Mr. Ackah added, highlighting the significance of the allowances for commuting to court and carrying out their duties.
