Africa has recorded 340 terror attacks in first quarter – Dep Nat’l Security Coordinator
Deputy National Security Coordinator Edward Kweku Asomani has assured Ghanaians of the efforts of the security apparatus to clamp down on threats of terrorism in the country.
According to him, there are several measures being put in place to curb any insurgent threats from terrorist groups that are emerging in Sub-Saharan Africa.
He gave the assurance when addressing the press at the Information Ministry's press briefing session in Accra on Sunday, 22 May 2022.
Mr Asomani said about 346 attacks have been recorded in Africa in the first quarter of the year with 49% of these attacks having occurred in the sub-region.
He noted that the recent happenings in Ghana's neighbouring countries were worrying.
He noted that these terrorist groups usually attack countries with gold reserves, which he says makes Ghana a target.
Mr Asomani also used the opportunity to appeal to the citizenry to be more cautious and vigilant and report to the authorities when they see something fishy since the national security secretariat alone cannot fight terrorism.
