C/R: Man falls to his death while stealing coconuts from tree
A coconut seller believed to be in his 40s, Kwame Basabasa, has been found dead at Saltpond in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region while allegedly stealing coconuts from a tree which did not belong to him.
He was found unresponsive in a gutter under the coconut tree on Thursday, 16 December 2021.
A sack of coconuts was found near the body with some of the fruits scattered around.
Regional correspondent Raymond Kwofie reported that the coconut seller, who plied his trade at a taxi rank located at the Saltpond Junction, is rumoured by the locals to have been a coconut thief.
According to him, some people in the community had made several complaints to the Saltpond police about the continued theft of coconuts from their farms.
While some residents of the community suspect the coconut seller was hit by a missile fired from a catapult by someone who saw him climbing the tree to steal the fruits, thus, his fall, others say he was hexed as a result of his coconut thievery.
His body has been deposited at the Saltpond Government Hospital morgue by the police awaiting identification by his family.
