COVID-19: No-mask-no-entry protocol'll be strictly enforced – UG V-C
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof Ebenezer Oduro-Owusu, has said the 'no-mask-no-entry' protocol is strictly in force coupled with the effort to mount a disinfected chamber at the Balm Library to ensure safety on campus.
According to him, the strict enforcement of the no-mask-no-entry rule is in line with the World Health Organization's safety protocols to limit the spread of COVID-19 within the university community upon return of final year students.
Ghana's COVID-19 caseload has hit 12,929 with 66 deaths and 4,468 recoveries.
Speaking to Class News after the presentation of some medical consumables to the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra, Prof. Oduro-Owusu said: "If you don't have a mask, you can't enter. As we speak there are plans to mount a disinfection chamber at the Balm Library, the survey is ongoing so that whoever goes in would be disinfected".
The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Shi Ting Wang has donated to University of Ghana Medical Centre some anti-epidemic supplies totalling GHS480,000 equivalent to $80,000. They include 15 ventilators, 20,0000 medical masks, 1600 N95 marks, 120 protective suits, 100 medical goggles and nutritional stuff.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Mr Wang said: "We hope these supplies can help Ghana win the battle against COVID-19 as early as possible".
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Health Dr Bernard Okoe Boye said the government will distribute 2.4 million face masks to final year SHS students expected in school next week. According to him, the supply of three reusable face masks to each WASSCE candidate is intended to limit the risks of community spread of COVID-19.
He told the media that: "Partnership with the Chinese Embassy and other donor partners is crucial to limit the importation of infections, community spread and adverse effects on economic life".
