Celebrate IGP Dampare for his outstanding service to Ghana – Minority Leader

The Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has showered praise on the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, for his outstanding service to Ghana.
Mr Afenyo-Markin made the remarks during the vetting of the Interior Minister-designate, Mohammed Muntaka, on Friday, 24th January.
The Minority Leader expressed admiration for Dr Dampare’s leadership, noting that his contributions to law enforcement and national security deserve celebration and recognition.
Addressing the vetting committee, Mr Afenyo-Markin said, “The Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, many may have their views about him, but I am one person who respects him, admires him. If we had his type manning our police service and other institutions, Ghana would be a better place.”
He acknowledged that there might be disagreements over Dr Dampare’s leadership style but insisted that his achievements far outweigh any criticisms.
The Minority Leader further commended Dr Dampare for his youthful energy and proactive approach to policing.
“Such an energetic IGP who isn’t 60 yet shouldn’t be removed,” Mr Afenyo-Markin stated, emphasising that the country needs dynamic and dedicated individuals like Dr Dampare to lead key institutions.
He expressed confidence that retaining Dr Dampare in his role would contribute significantly to strengthening the police service and promoting national stability.
In his concluding remarks, Mr Afenyo-Markin reiterated the importance of celebrating individuals who dedicate themselves to national service.
He urged Ghanaians and policymakers to look beyond personal differences and recognise the impact of Dr Dampare’s leadership.
“What he has done for our nation must be celebrated,” the Minority Leader declared, calling for continued support for the IGP to enable him to deliver even greater results for the country.
