Damongo: 22-year-old herdsman drowns in 1V1D site
A 22-year-old herdsman in the West Gonja District of the Savanna Region has died at Sori No.1 in one of the One Village-One Dam (1V1D) projects in the community.
The young man, whose name has been given as Garba Mamadu, went to the dam with his cattle together with his younger brother, Aliu Mamadu, on Wednesday, 4 December 2019, at about 3 p.m.
Class91.3FM’s Savanna correspondent Zion Abdul-Rauf reported that the late Garba, according to his brother, went into the dam to swim and drowned.
An alarm was raised by Garba’s brother which attracted some community members to the scene but their efforts could not save the herdsman.
They, however, managed to retrieve the body from the dam.
The assemblyman for Sori No.1 Electoral Area, Mr Seidu A. Fuseini, informed the Damongo divisional police command about the incident.
The officer went to the scene to examine the body.
Garba’s remains have been buried in conformity with Islamic tradition.
