Don’t be bystanders, enforce COVID-19 protocols at registration centres – Otchere-Darko to Police

Mr Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has said the job of the police officers stationed at various voter registration centres under these COVID-19 times, in his view, is to ensure that people observe social distancing and all other safety protocols and not act as bystanders until there is physical trouble.

The President’s cousin's comment comes on the back of several reports of COVID-19 protocol breaches at some registration centres in the country.

At some centres, social distancing is non-existent despite the presence of the police and other security personnel, raising concerns about a possible hike in COVID-19 cases and deaths in the country.

In a Facebook post, Mr Otchere-Darko advised the Police to be proactive.

His post read: “The job of the police and others in the Elections Security Task Force under these COVID-19 times is primarily, in my view, to ensure that we maintain social distancing and observe all the other safety protocols to go with social gatherings at registration centres. The police are not to act as bystanders until they see physical trouble. No! They must be very proactive in the fight against the virus. The virus is the unseen enemy and they must act accordingly.”
