E/R: 17 police officers injured in Somanya crash
Members of the Ghana Police Service's Koforidua regional band were, on Saturday, 27 November 2021, involved in a car accident at Somanya in the Eastern Region.
The accident occurred when a commercial Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus on which the police officers were travelling to Somanya from Koforidua, allegedly experienced a brake failure.
The driver of the Sprinter bus, 31-year-old Kofi Asare, experienced the fault on the Aperede-Somanya hills.
The vehicle somersaulted while the driver was descending the hill and landed in a ditch.
A statement issued by the Akropong Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) following the incident said: “Occupants aboard the vehicle sustained various degrees of injury and were immediately rescued and rushed to the Atuah Government hospital, Somanya for treatment.”
About 17 police officers sustained multiple injuries.
However, due to the nature of their injuries, four of the police officers have been referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua for further treatment.
The driver of the Sprinter bus is also on admission at the Atuah Government hospital at Somanya.
