The NGO making the donation

An NGO based in the Eastern Region called Community Impact Volunteers of Ghana has donated a refrigerator, a wheelchair, a food vending container and an amount of GHS100 to madam Mary Boadu at Azza in the Yilo Krobo Municipality to cater for her 9-year-old girl suffering from cerebral palsy.

The donation follows a report by CTV’s Kamal Ahmed on the plight of the single mother, which was published on ClassFMonline.com.

The director for Community Impact Volunteers of Ghana, Mr Frank Adu Asare, said after the story was published and forwarded to his organisation, they decided to assist the mother so that she can be able to work and cater for herself and the little girl.

According to Mr Adu, the refrigerator and container are to assist Ms Boadu to start an ice water and ice kenkey or ice cream business for her to take care of the little girl and herself.

He stated that their mission is to support the vulnerable in society.

The Assemblyman for Abrewankor Electoral area, Mr Nyumutwu Stephen, noted that the donated items will help the mother to provide for herself and her daughter.

The wheelchair, he said, will aid the movement of the little girl and bring relief to the mother.

Ms Boadu expressed gratitude to the donors for the support.

Cerebral palsy is caused by an abnormality or disruption in brain development, most often before a child is born.

In many cases, the cause is not known.

Some symptoms of cerebral palsy include variations in muscle tone such as being either too stiff or too floppy, stiff muscles and exaggerated reflexes (spasticity), stiff muscles with normal reflexes (rigidity), slow, writhing movements, difficulty walking, such as walking on toes, a crouched gait, a scissors-like gait with knees crossing, a wide gait or an asymmetrical gait, excessive drooling or problems with swallowing and seizures.
