ECG Revenue Protection Task Force launched to check power theft
Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on Tuesday, 14 September 2021 launched a Revenue Protection Task Force for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Dr Prempeh said the move is to ensure that at the very minimum, the low hanging fruits such as power theft can be clamped down on, whilst work is progressively done on the other commercial aspects of the company’s operation.
The Minister said the task force’s mandate is to seal all the loopholes that gives rise to losses, the bane of the ECG over the years.
He further said in the NPP government’s efforts at 100% accessibility and affordability of electricity to Ghanaians, making ECG viable is crucial. For this reason, Dr. Prempeh said interventions such as the Accelerated Smart Prepaid Meter Deployment, Boundary metering and the revenue protection taskforce mechanism will be executed to their logical conclusions.
The Minister charged the Board and Management to give their full support to the task force to enable them deliver on their mandate without fail
“I want results and I will demand the results. Excuses and lethargy will not be countenanced,” he said.
