Energy Minister John Jinapor urges GNPC, Explorco to tackle decline in oil production
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has charged the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and its subsidiary, GNPC Explorco, to intensify efforts aimed at reversing the country’s declining oil production.
The Minister made the call during a working visit to the two institutions as part of his familiarisation tour of agencies under his Ministry.
Mr. Jinapor commended the management and staff of GNPC and Explorco for their dedication to advancing Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector, but emphasised the need for renewed vigour in exploration and reserve growth.
“GNPC and Explorco must lead the charge in exploring new fields, boosting reserves, and ensuring long-term energy security,” he stated.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the national oil company and its subsidiary to build a strong, globally competitive institution capable of driving sustainable growth for the nation.
The Chief Executive Officer of GNPC, Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah, and the CEO of GNPC Explorco, Mr. Sam Arthur, assured the Minister of their readiness to deliver on their mandate.
They pledged to adopt innovative strategies, strengthen partnerships, and enhance technical capacity to improve output and maximise the sector’s contribution to Ghana’s economy.
Mr. Jinapor’s visit forms part of his broader engagement with key agencies under the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to assess progress, identify challenges, and align efforts toward achieving national energy goals.
