The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has held a stakeholder engagement session to review and finalise its consolidated guidelines for the advertisement of regulated products in Ghana.

The meeting brought together key players from the food, cosmetics, and household chemicals industries to discuss the updated framework, which is aimed at streamlining the advertising approval process and enhancing regulatory oversight.

Speaking to the media, the FDA’s Head of Communication and Public Education, Rhoda Ewurabena Appiah, said the revised guidelines address gaps in the regulation of promotional content, particularly on social media.

“In the past, we didn’t have very strict provisions for regulating social media due to how fast the space evolves. The new framework now allows industry players to submit a consolidated campaign plan for the entire year, rather than seeking approval for each individual promotional material,” she explained.

According to her,  the move is part of broader efforts to ensure responsible advertising while reducing the administrative burden on businesses.
