Fight arms proliferation – Otumfuo to IGP
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has called on the Inspector-General of Police to fight the proliferation of arms and ammunition in the country.
The Asante monarch also wants the IGP to fish out bad nuts in the police administration, who give their guns to armed robbers for robbery activities.
The Asantehene was speaking at the Manhyia Palace when the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Damapre, paid a courtesy call on him on Wednesday, 1 December 2021.
While questioning the police administration as to how these illegal arms and ammunition were able to enter the country, Otumfuo noted that they are being used for robberies.
The Asantehene noted that it is the work of the police to find out how unregistered arms and ammunition have become dominant in the country, whether illegally manufactured domestically or smuggled into the country and fight it.
While commending the IGP for working toward fighting crime, he called on the police personnel to support the IGP in ensuring a peaceful environment.
Dr Dampare also assured the chief that he will work together with his men to ensure a peaceful nation.
