Frake and Forshelzan F'dn donate to juvenile inmates at Accra correctional centre
Two NGOs who promote human rights and social advocacy initiatives, Frake Foundation and Forshelzan Foundation, have held a love feast and made a donation to the juvenile inmates at the Accra senior correctional centre at Roman Ridge.
The inmates at the correctional centre were treated to lunch under a relaxed musical atmosphere by their colleague inmates who had passion for music.
The NGOs donated assorted drinks, bottles of water and hampers to the centre.
Speaking to Class News, the Executive Director of Frake Foundation, Francis Kings, said the initiative is to give the juvenile inmates a reason to smile and motivate them to pursue their talent.
He also appealed to other institutions and organisations to support the correctional centre to make it a model reformatory centre in West Africa.
"I am very happy that we were able to put smiles on the faces of the juvenile inmates today. From what transpired here today [Sunday, 12 January 2020], I can see that they were also motivated to give off their best in life and not to be discouraged by their present circumstances. I am appealing to other organisations to also come and assist the centre to make it a model reformatory centre in West Africa," he stated.
The Greater Accra PRO of the Ghana Prisons service A.C.O Francis Agomadzi thanked the two foundations for their gesture. He also said the centre has rolled out a number of initiatives to ensure that inmates leave the place reformed and economically equipped to be independent and beneficial to the community.
"On behalf of the correctional centre, I want to say a very big thank you to Frake Foundation and Forshelzan Foundation for donating to us. We are also doing our best to equip the juvenile inmates here with relevant skills to make them productive to society. Some of them are currently enrolled in formal education and are preparing to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination. Some inmates without formal educational background are also receiving some vocational training and are doing very well,” he said.
