GA/R: Ashaiman Assembly clears decade-old refuse dump at Fitter-Line
The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region has evacuated a refuse dump that had blighted the Fitter-Line area for more than a decade, as part of efforts to transform the municipality into a cleaner and healthier city.
The site, which had also been taken over by squatters with kiosks and unauthorised structures, was described by authorities as a serious health hazard to residents in the enclave.
The latest exercise forms part of the Assembly’s ongoing sanitation campaign, which recently saw a similar cleanup carried out at the Ashaiman Overhead, where piles of refuse were cleared.
Speaking during the exercise, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Freeman Tsekpo emphasised that the Assembly’s concern goes beyond refuse evacuation.
“We are committed to not only keeping Ashaiman clean but also safeguarding the health and well-being of people living close to these sites,” he said.
The Municipal Health Director, Dr. Sophia Quist, added that her outfit will conduct health screening for residents in the affected areas and provide necessary medical care to prevent any outbreak of sanitation-related diseases.
Authorities have assured residents that the campaign will continue until Ashaiman becomes a model clean city in the Greater Accra Region.
