The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has been discharged from the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) following a serious road accident earlier this week.

The monarch was released shortly after a visit by President John Dramani Mahama, who called on him at the hospital.

Medical experts gave the King a clean bill of health after he underwent intensive clinical assessments upon his evacuation to Accra for specialised care.

The accident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, February 17, 2026, while the Ga Mantse was returning to Accra from what palace officials described as an urgent mission.

The incident took place along the Pai–Katanga stretch of the Oti highway in the Oti Region, sparking widespread concern across the Ga State and beyond.

According to the Office of the Ga Mantse, the crash happened as the King’s convoy was navigating the highway.

He had earlier travelled to the Northern Region on a private visit at the invitation of the Ya Naa, aimed at strengthening traditional ties between the Ga and Dagbon kingdoms.

Despite the severity of the accident, officials confirmed that there were no fatalities.

The King and members of his entourage were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Ghana Police Service and royal staff before being airlifted to Accra for further treatment.

A statement signed by the Chief of Protocol and Communications, Amb. (Sir) S.J.K. Parker-Allotey, indicated that the monarch’s recovery has been swift and satisfactory.

His Royal Majesty has expressed profound gratitude to emergency responders, the medical team at UGMC, and members of the public for their prayers and well-wishes during what has been described as a tense period for the Ga Traditional Council.

With his discharge, the Ga State now looks ahead to the King’s first public appearance following the accident.
