Gov’t to spend GHS521m on census
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has disclosed it intends spending about GHS521.3 million on the upcoming Population and Housing Census (PHC).
Addressing Parliament today, Tuesday, 22 June 2021, on the upcoming exercise, which is slated for the 28th of this month, Government Statistician Samuel Kobina Annim justified the budget with a projected population of 31.6 million.
Prof Annim also urged Members of Parliament to support the census by depoliticising the exercise.
His concern was premised by reports of constant attacks on some field officials by persons who see the exercise as one for a political purpose.
Meanwhile, Parliament will not sit on Friday, 25 June 2021 to enable Members of Parliament to travel to their various constituencies to participate in the census.
The decision was taken by the Business Committee in consultation with the Speaker of Parliament.
